Maiken Stene is a visual artist who works with painting, installation, text, video and photo. Her emphasis is on the general subject of how people interact with and visually represent nature, both traditionally and today. She looks at how various industrial alterations of the land may affect our assumed ideas of what nature is supposed to look like. In large scale painting installations, she studies the complex processes that happen from the moment one has an encounter with nature -to how the impressions of this encounter can be transformed into an artistic expression.
Stene (b. 1983 in Norway) holds a BA and MA in Fine Art from Malmö Art Academy and the Cooper Union School of Art. Stene has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally at KBContemporary, Trøndelag Senter for Contemporary Art, Oslo Kunstforening, Hå Gamle Prestegard, Lunds Konsthall, Akershus Kunstsenter, Uppsala Konstmuseum and The Museum of Public Art in Lund, Sweden.
Stene is represented by KBContemporary.
Stenes work is in the collections of Uppsala Artmuseum, Stavanger Art Museum, Equinor, Statens Konstråd, Helse Førde, Innlandet Fylkeskommune, Rev-Ocean, The Norwegian Office of Foreign Affairs, Stavanger Municipality, Oslo Municipality and many private collections.
